about

The psyche unraveled, an individual turned hostage beneath the weight of what defines their misery, The Undoing of the self. To Burn Beneath The Spotlight’s second act of three, The Undoing, captures the extremity of its character’s internal decay through a multitude of crushing riffs, devastating slams and guttural vocals. All of which are sewn together by lyrics detailing the severity of how it feels to self-destruct with neither a hand to hold nor a shoulder on which to cry, only a razor and running water.

We went into the composition of The Undoing with the intention of sonically creating an atmosphere as heavy as the song's subject matter, leaning more into the death metal side of our influences warranted for room to make one of our darkest songs to date.
The rhythm section of The Undoing is a keystone of its strength. The energy emitted from the bass, drums and core of the guitars perpetuate the momentum of the EP’s second act.

The Undoing continues the theatrical narrative of The Archivist by allowing the audience to follow the character as they transition from spectator to performer in the play they wish to never have begun.

lyrics

The stage is set
An audience taking their seats
My presence turns to regret
what history repeats
A void in me
Exposed by brittle bones
Patterns set into the marquetry
Of temporary thrones

It was dark beneath the sun
when life became the final breath to candles
inhaled against the will it takes to count
the decades lost between the razors and their handles

I gave up everything I have ever loved
to chase illusions dressed as life in dreams,
to find my soul is slipping through itself
in streams from open wrists and no one seems
to care

The stage is set
An audience taking their seats
My presence turns to regret
what history repeats
A void in me
Exposed by brittle bones
Patterns set into the marquetry
Of temporary thrones

I wish that I could hold myself and scream it’s not your fault

With a deathbed made of porcelain
the edges of the crimson water flood
If only you would keep me in your arms
as memories turn to ashes in my blood

Epiphanic provenances
Seeping through a dying mind
Relinquishing the nature of
This shadow soon to be defined
As misery.

I’ve left a note to tell you why
This life performed is not the life I know.
The gift of living is to love and die,
Do you love enough to let me go?

Bury me beneath the earth

The stage is set
An audience taking their seats
My presence turns to regret
what history repeats
A void in me
Exposed by brittle bones
Patterns set into the marquetry
Of temporary thrones

about

Winter Hotel London, UK

Formed in late 2017 through the chance meeting of its founding members, 5-piece Winter Hotel create a dynamic, hard hitting yet emotive Alternative Metal sound that's hard to pin down to a single genre. This constant push-and-pull of differing extremes creates a band and a sound that removes the boundaries between Metal’s vast spectrum of subgenres and even introduces other genres entirely. ... more
